Bikini Atoll 1946
On a small Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the United States conducted a series of nuclear weapon tests at Bikini Atoll in what was known as Operation Crossroads. Two bombs, Abe and Baker, were detonated to test the effects nuclear blasts could have on naval warships. Explosion Baker, was the world’s first nuke to be detonated underwater. Nobody knew what to expect since the unique properties of underwater explosions had as of yet been untested. It was because of that, the Baker test became the most documented explosions of all time.
