The Beatles On The Ed Sullivan Show 1964

On February 9th of 1964, The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in New York City. The band was so well received that they were on again the very next week.

The Beatles second performance took place at the Deauville hotel in Miami hotel  in front of a lucky, small audience of only 2,600 viewers.  As word of the show leaked a crowd of thousands showed up. It turned out that CBS had given out too many tickets, 3,500 to be exact. Police were soon called and had to calm the 1000 angry ticket holders who were denied entry.

The show was watched by an estimated 70 million people in 22,445,000 homes,

Fun Fact: Boxers Joe Louis and Sonny Liston were both in the audience at the Deauville.
