1. 1978: Larry Bird gets drafted by the Boston Celtics

On this day in 1978, the legendary Larry Bird was drafted as the sixth overall pick by the Boston Celtics. Bird would go on to play 13 season with the Celtics, 12 of which he would make the NBA All-Star team. He also achieved the award for MVP three years in a row from 1984-1986, as well as wining three NBA championships. At 6 foot 9 inches tall, Bird mostly played small and power forward, and was known for being a fantastic shooter. During the summer of 1992, he was a part of the “Dream Team” with Michael Jordan and company that dominated the Olympics in Barcelona. After that experience, Bird decided to retire from playing basketball but soon after started working with the Indian Pacers organization where he now is the team president.
