1. 1986: The Kansas City Royals draft Bo Jackson
Bo Jackson might very well be one of the greatest all-around athletes that ever lived. The New York Yankees attempted to draft him straight out of high school in 1982, but Bo wanted to go to college instead. At Auburn University, he would go on to dominate the football, baseball and track teams, even winning the Heisman Trophy in 1985. Jackson was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the first pick in the 1986 NFL Draft, but due to a disagreement that he had with the owner, Bo refused to sign and vowed never to play for the Bucs. Instead he waited and on this date in 1986, he was picked up in the fourth round of the MLB draft by the Kansas City Royals. The following year, Bo would sign with Al Davis and the Raiders where he would go on to make history as one of the best two-sport athletes that ever lived.
