In an attempt to flee from authorities yet again, 19 year old Colton Harris-Moore, also known as the “Barefoot Bandit”, was captured on this day in 2010. Harris-Moore was an American teenager wanted for theft, and destruction of property starting in Washington state reaching all the way to the Bahamas. He stole an airplane from Bloomingdale Indiana on July 4th, 2010 and was able to make it out of the country but the ended up crash landing the plane in the Bahamas. From there it was reported that he was behind a series of break-ins throughout the area. After stealing a boat in an attempt to flee Police were forced to shoot out the engine before taking him into custody. Just two days later he was extradited to Miami, then transferred to a Washington detention center where he was sentenced to almost 15 years. Although he was coined with the nickname “Barefoot Bandit” because he allegedly wasn’t wearing shoes for most of his crimes, police officials pointed out usually most often wore shoes.
