NExif II* k ( 1 2 ; i George III when Prince of Wales, Joshua Reynolds
The first ‘truly British’ Hanoverian King, George lll was the eldest son child of George ll’s son, Prince Frederick of Wales, who was a passionate patron of British interests. George spent much of his early life at Kew Palace, where his father surrounded him with leading politicians, musicians and architects.
George’s Father, Prince Fredrick, died suddenly at an early age, and was quickly followed by his grandfather, George ll, which led to George ascending the throne at the tender age of 22. George was keen to find a wife before his coronation, and after a search for suitable candidates, married Princess Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in 1761, on the same day as he met her! George revealed himself to be a family man at heart, and he and Charlotte had a long and happy marriage. Together they had fifteen children.
